It was a long time ago that I posted about this work in progress, but I have finished my painting of the Chicago skyline as seen from Lincoln Park. I actually finished this one a while ago, but life got in the way of getting it scanned and up on the site and into a blog post. Life has a way of intruding into my art. :)
This painting was inspired by a girls trip my daughter and I took to Chicago a couple of years ago. My best friend from high school (see the title of this painting) had moved there a few years before and our promise to go visit her kept getting postponed. On a whim, we decided to stop postponing and just go, flying out for a weekend.
We had a great time in the city, seeing all the tourist sights like Cloud Gate (aka "The Bean"), wandering through the zoo, and perusing the works in the Art Institute of Chicago. We also had fun just hanging out, getting food, and walking the city streets.
As we made our way to Lincoln Park and you could see the city skyline in the background, the awesome correlation between the natural life in the water and grass to the backdrop of the concrete and stone facades of the human city experience was peaceful and humbling. I couldn't think of a better location to capture the weekend I spent in Chicago with two of my best friends.
This painting's prints are now available in my shop, starting at $40.
